My name is Garth Laidlaw and I’m currently a freelance illustrator an animator based in Guelph. I graduated from Sheridan College’s Bachelor of Animation program.
My goal with my artwork is to be able to tell environmentally and socially conscious stories that engage both children and adults. I also strive to be an entrepreneurial artist, and am constantly looking for ways to engage the community, both locally and online. I currently conduct twice weekly Life Drawing sessions out of my home, with all of the details found on my website. On my website, I’m also hoping to build a library of great resources for fellow artists to assist them in their learning, and hope to one day conduct an online art mentorship / digital classroom. I’m inspired by the power of the internet within the arts spectrum, as I find the vast connections facilitate limitless inspirations and possibilities for future learning. I’m also inspired by many of the older traditions of classical painting; however, I also love many of the modern contemporary illustrators.
One day, I hope to form an arts collective / production house in Guelph that will be oriented towards collaboration with the community, and creating products and services that work towards a more sustainable future: a ‘local arts factory’ of sorts that will help re-establish the value of the visual arts in society, which I hope to call ‘Art Story’.
