Like many artists. Mariya started drawing at a young age and to the dismay of her parents, her very early drawings often included UFOs and rather anatomically correct people. She always disliked coloring inside the lines and, instead, preferred to see images within shapes. Perhaps this has led her to adopt watercolor as her primary medium. Its freedom allows her to work in many layers while pulling details out of subtle washes.
Drawing inspiration from Ukrainian folk-tales as well as a profound fascination and respect for living things, she loves to paint characters who find themselves in magical situations. Her goal is to cultivate a thirst for knowledge about the world and a passion to preserve it for future generations.
She also hopes to one day give Alan Lee a hug.
