I have recommitted to being a fine artist.

I happen to paint figurative works.  To date the predominant subject has been the male figure, frozen in a moment of time.  Those uninterested in the story might simply see a handsome man, but to me the subject is such a minor point ,  when compared to the story the concept  itself.

The “Reflection series, presented here  is painted in direct response to the underlying prejudice towards the male nude .  I am surprised  that   people tend to  label my work, a collection of paintings with no intended sexual orientation, “Gay”.  And with that often comes an uncomfortable feeling, as if a certain taboo quality has been touched  like a hot stove.   So  what if I took the classic nude and placed it in a contemporary setting ? Would the Dying Gaul, or  Caravaggio’s Cupid , elicit the same response ?  With these paintings  I include the viewer and have the subject of the painting literally break into their reality.

I continually challenge myself and apply myself to my craft.  Some of this is comes about by trying to evolve the technique.  Some is found through applying to various exhibits and publications.  And finally, some of this finds expression by contributing to the representation of the male figure, to bring a balance to a genre that overwhelmingly favors that of the female.
