Brenda Lyons Member Since October 2013 |
Brenda Lyons' art focuses on the natural world with a touch of the otherworldly. Dreamlike creatures and the realms where they dwell are recurring subjects in her paintings, fueled by a deep passion for birds and avian beasts. She has shown at a number of conventions and art shows around the country, and is the author of "Winged Fantasy: Draw and Paint Magical and Mythical Creatures" from IMPACT Books, and the illustrator of "America's Favorite Birds" and "Backyard Birds and Blossoms" for Cornell Lab of Publishing.
Her main mediums are watercolor and acrylic, and she also creates tooled and hand-painted leather masks and jewelry. She has volunteered with birds of prey at a raptor rehabilitation center with education and the care of sick and injured raptors. Her experiences with the birds often find their way into her art. In 2009 she received her M.F.A. in Illustration from the Savannah College of Art and Design, and currently teaches illustration at RMCAD.
