Description
Sanguine, sepia, soft pastels, charcoal, colour pencil on Fabriano Rosaspina etching paper 70x100cm 2021 I was inspired by Peter Paul Rubens' painting "Henry IV at the Battle of Ivry" which I first saw in an art student's book at school. That reproduction differed from the original with the colour palette, more in sepia tones which I adore. It induced me to make my own version of this painting. I replaced the motives of fighting knights' heads with my own grotesque parts - human skulls copied from an anatomical album. The colours I used refer to Leonardo da Vinci's unfinished "Adoration of the Magi". I juxtaposed the elements of my imagination with themes that interest me, creating new artistic value.
