I was inspired by the humble Mulberry tree which is often maligned for its pollen output and tends to be severely pruned into unnatural shapes. You can still see the effects of this pollarding in our backyard trees by the previous owners of our home leaving behind fantastical faces in the misshapen branches. We have let them grow with more selective pruning into beautiful and much-appreciated shade trees against the hot California sun. The image is watercolor and ink and the border is a digital drawing.
