Description

The Cogas, for the folklore of Sardinia, are vampire witches To tradition, the seventh daughter is particularly prone to being born a witch. These creatures during the day live among ordinary people. They also lead apparently normal lives, in fact they can be married and have children. On full moon nights instead, they come from homes to gather in the countryside and in the woods and there do strange hunting rituals. Infants are the favorite victims, especially if they are not baptized. With the full moon they can become invisible and turn into owls. Precisely in animal form, with the favor of the dark, the Cogas enter people's homes to attack or steal newborns. Until the middle of the last century, the population of Sardinia was very superstitious about the Cogas. - Representation of a ritual scene with a Nuragic menhir behind it.
