'The expectation weighed heavy, like an enemy of mine, thrashing in thistle, morel, and pine. Blood on my coat, viscera in my eyes, as my soul left his throat and the trembling died.' We have all known the pressure of expectations put upon us by others. While there is nothing wrong with following the roles we truly want, when we participate in the expectations of others against our inner desires, we hurt not only ourselves but also those around us as we perpetuate the myth of their sanctity. I wanted to use the example of a stag who has won in battle against another. Although he is victorious, he must now live with what he has done, rotting and weighing down on him until it becomes just another part of what he is.
