"The Calix Mortalis" or "The Chalice of Mortality." Designed and created by a group of wizard hypochondriacs, the Calix Mortalis can foretell a person's time and place of death, but it also can predict where and when that person will be born in their next life, and who they were in their previous life. Initially, it was meant only for this group of wizards as a private oracle, and was kept very secret. But when the wizards' clubhouse where they kept it was forced to be fumigated for an infestation of mooseflies, the Calix Mortalis had to be transported to a storage facility on the outskirts of Warehouse row. Along the way, it fell off the back of the cart when it hit one of Gateway's many infamous sentient potholes and then rolled into a nearby alleyway. Finally a free-agent, the Calix Mortalis applied for its own business license and set up shop in a Coffeetown nightmarket. Thereafter, anyone with $27.50 could have their time and place and circumstance of death told to them, assuming they were in to that kind of thing.
