Watercolor, colored pencil, ink. Created at Finley's View Farm Artist Residency. In the collection of T.G. and Annemarie Field. This piece represents a break from my standard digital tools and the introduction of more traditional media and new styles in my work. It was created during a 2 week artist residency in rural farm country this past summer. Inspired by the idea of new life coming from old wounds, the pictured buck is frolicking in new grass and shedding his velvet to reveal majestic antlers. This process can look bloody (but does not actually hurt the deer), but the results are a thing of beauty. In addition to this metaphor, this piece represents the artist's transition from mainly working in digital media to more traditional media - a "renewal" of sorts.
