When the theme for this year's Bubonicon was announced, Rockets, Robots, and Rayguns, I immediately thought of mice on scooters. I saw rodents playing in libraries and that led to very fond memories of reading Beverly Cleary's "The Mouse and the Motorcycle" my first year at a sleep-away camp. I LOVED the camp library and spent a lot of time there. It was quiet and cool and the camp counselor had actually read the books and gave great recommendations. I designed the background of the piece based on my memory of that little library. I hope Perry Rodent loves it as much as I did! "Neither the mouse nor the boy was the least bit surprised that each could understand the other," "Two creatures who shared a love for motorcycles naturally spoke the same language." - Beverly Cleary; The Mouse And The Motorcycle
