"The sight filled the northern sky; the immensity of it was scarcely conceivable. As if from Heaven itself, great curtains of delicate light hung and trembled. Pale green and rose-pink, and as transparent as the most fragile fabric, and at the bottom edge a profound fiery crimson like the fires of Hell, they swung and shimmered loosely with more grace than the most skillful dancer." - Phillip Pullman, The Golden Compass I saw all of these nomads that had to travel the path before the northern lights to make sure the Earth was readied for the skies. They dressed to reflect their duties and brought music, stories and dances so the people they met along they way would take the time to look up and see the lights and dream the next year's colors into being.
