Description
Known as the &ldquo Father of the Forest,&rdquo he is the most popular of all the Trinidadian folklore characters. Said to be the protector of the forest, he has a great disdain for hunters. The upper part of Papa Bois&rsquo body resembles that of an old man with horns, while the lower part takes the form of a deer, giving him a satyr-like appearance. He has a bone-horn tied around his waist that is blown to warn the surrounding animals of malicious humans that hunt for sport. While stories of Papa Bois scare lowly hunters, he is known to be a wise, kind and caring spirit. There are tales of people lost in the forest being lead back to civilization by Papa Bois himself.
