Description
These are the spirits of babies that died before they were able to be baptized. Their physical form is grotesque. Their feet face backward and they have no face other than a small round mouth. They have no particular gender and hide their faces under a large, mushroom-shaped straw hat. Superstitious people in Trinidad believe that if they call their children&rsquo s name in public, the Duenne will learn it. Out of jealousy for the children that are alive, the Duenne will call the child&rsquo s name at night and if the child answers, he/she will be hunted and taken away from their own bedrooms. If you hear a disembodied voice calling your name at night, don&rsquo t answer.
