" Proud" 12x16 watercolor painting by Linda Lisa First time using Dr. PH Martin' s copper plated gold ink. I wanted to use it with a powerful illustration that the gold would help tell the story. This is very personal painting for me and I wanted to continue the conversation of blacklivesmatter.

When researching ideas and techniques for this illustration, I quickly found out that there is a very limited access for painting black skin. Found one nice video on YouTube covering different skin types. The comments on the video broke my heart.
One artist comments how grateful he was for the video as he has been looking for help painting his own skin. That this artist has never had the confidence to even make a self portrait. The lack of resources had limited his art. That really will never leave me. I painted this with him on my mind wanting him to be proud!
