Projects: After more than fifteen years doing mainly historical and mythological illustrations for different written and television media in various countries, I feel like a time traveler (with many books and brushes in my backpack) who never stops discovering and learning, and who has the privilege of opening for others a kind of illustrated window to a recreated past, and currently in the process of doing it also to fantasy and the future. I have also had the opportunity to make many and very diverse book covers (a dream come true for a devourer of letters like me) and to illustrate other types of stories, tales, novels (what can be better than a good story?), while I sail new seas in which to continue doing more and better.
Location: Madrid, SpainSophonisba, Hasdrubal the Fair' s first wife, Hamilcar Barca' s daughter and Hannibal Barca' s sister, confronts her husband feeling vexed by his latest political and personal decisions (unfortunately, for families like hers it was difficult to disentangle them from each other), and his detestable advisor Zeká rbal, high priest of Eshmú n and implacable master of intrigue and secrets (2023). (For the historical novel The Chalice of Melqart, Arturo Gonzalo Aizpiri. Part of the visual world created for the upcoming Hannibal' s Trilogy novel art book). · About the sketch: As chance would have it (or whatever we want to call this serendipity) the most important day for the closing of the approach to this scene appeared again on my television (sometimes, instead music, or silence, I work with the company of a film in the background) Zorba the Greek. And whit him Irene Papas, who was for me, honestly, the initial visual inspiration for this Sophonisba for so many things, although she continued to evolve later towards other nuances out of a clear need for her own identity. But Sophonisba will always owe (and I will) something to the extraordinary Papas' essence. (Please see Gallery Room description).
