" Jewels such as these you will never find in your treasuries, for they are hard to come by." Appendix A, The Lord of the Rings, by J.R.R. Tolkien The scene is from the appendices of " The Lord of the Rings" , where the history of Rohan is told. The hero Fram has just slain the dragon Scatha the Worm. A necklace made of the dragon' s teeth and the haughty words above are Frams reply to the Dwarves, who also claim the dragon' s treasure as theirs. Images if Fram and Scatha would decorate the tapestries seen by Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli as they entered the Golden Hall of Edoras centuries later. The small silver horn that Eowyn gifts to Merry came from the hoard of Scatha. " The Teeth of Scatha worm" is done in oils on panel, and measure 24" x 32" .
