Projects: Illustrated trading cards for Vampire of the Masquerade and Alderac Entertainment illustrated for Drakaina Fantasy Muse, Exotique 3, Inside Kung-Fu and Heavy Metal illustrated pinups for Hustler and wrote tutorials for Corel Painter, Advanced Photoshop, Fantasy Art Magazine and Digital Artist Magazine.
Location: Las Vegas, NVPainted by Sandra Chang-Adair to depict the moment Ariel saves the prince from drowning. Accompanied by her dolphin companion, the underwater scene is depicted among lush coral and exotic fishes. It' s funny how difficult it is to put aside the unconscious influence of Disney, originally I painted Ariel with a green tail and orange hair.
I painted this several years ago for my portfolio. I had just gotten a Cintiq Wacom tablet from my husband for xmas and was so excited to use it during the holidays. Unfortunately Painter was unstable and I lost 8 hours worth of work on my painting! Luckily I had a old psd version. Now I save 2 redundant copies and have an external hard drive! I used photo references from an aquarium I visited during my honeymoon (yes, always thinking of art...and kung fu). I wanted to experiment with light streaming underwater as the reflections dance off of the mermaid' s tail and dolphin (although that far underwater, it probably would not be seen). I played around with the transparency of the prince' s wet billowy cotton Renaissance shirt to reveal some solid muscles, Ariel should have a hunk. Overall the coral and sea creatures were fun to paint.
This painting was published in a two-page spread in Corel Painter magazine.
