I wanted a benign remnant in this future, as most of what I was painting was pretty tragic. So I worked with the idea of books holding the most dangerous knowledge of mankind, the things that lead to the fall of the world. Then I gave it a guardian serpent to watch over them and prevent repetition from happening. Or at least watch over this library until it falls into dust and nothing of importance is left.
