CC Deranged (Chris Caldwell) – watercolour and digital Chris Caldwell is a self-taught artist born 1958 in Manitoba, raised in British Columbia’s Lower Mainland and residing in the Yukon since 1979. Better known for her frontier comedic art, Chris practices in a number of visual art genres ranging through graphic design, iconography, illustration and fine art in all subjects and themes. Born a female artist in a male dominated era, her gender barred her from following her chosen path as a fantasy illustrator. In this new enlightened age she is now reviving her long disused skills to produce art in themes that express her joy in depicting her favorite mythological subjects. The art of CC Deranged is an expression of personal real world observations and experiences interpreted into depictions of mythology and horror. Her name she invented “to express my frustration with being an imaginary realist categorized by popular demand into the singular genre of frontier comedy. For over 40 years I’ve only had opportunity to express my humorous side and am long overdue to release the beasts of my serious side.”
