Projects: The first time I drew a digital sketch was when I was 5 or 6 years old in school. That first sketch was incredibly joyful although exceptionally primitive (both in my skill and the computer program of the time). Since I have been using a tablet to draw and paint. Unlike when working with physical materials in a physical space, in the digital world you can adjust and undo marks in a completely different way. My digital paintings are mostly on few layers. The most amazing part is the scale and brightness of colors that is impossible to recreate with pigment. My finished works are printed once on either canvas or paper as one of a kind paintings instead of digital prints.
Location: United StatesThis digital painting was inspired by classical oil portraits of women from the 1800s. I changed the tone by painting the woman on one layer of digital painting to keep the technique similar to a classical oil painting. Her hair is bright purple as mine was at the time and unlike the typical portraits where women would just be seated, this series I added unlikely skills and tools to my women. She is an astronomer and scientist and both soft and feminine. This series was a feminist series that portrayed women being both delicate and fragile but bold and strong. In many ways this is a self portrait and a homage to the great painters from a century ago.
