I have always loved the Gawain story as with much of the Arthurian legends. One of the things that always got me though was why the Green Knight would be riding a horse! In my personal project World War Fae, the Green Knight is an arboreal creature of the fey, based in green man mythology. His steed, rather than being the traditional horse, a beast unsuited to thick forest is in actuality a monkey like creature of enormous size but which is capable of shapeshifting. This painting represents the first study of what that creature may look like, The underpainting for this was done using acrylic paint and a rag for which there is an process video! With all the colour and detail stages finished in oils at the original size of 1x1m.
