"I’d watch the birds peck away at the apples.” He pointed at the black tree in the garden. “The birds would eat the entire fruit, and then even take the core away. Years would pass, and as the war continued to rage, no one was left to care for the tree. It grew diseased and worms consumed its leaves, and the apples it dropped were brown and small. But the birds still came. I wondered where the apple seeds went to. A revelation occurred to me as I sought to apply this to my own magic. What if I was no longer part of the tree, but I became the seed that it bore?” Eris's eyes widened. “You mean you created your own form of magic?” “Yes.
