Location: Michigan, USA'Tengu' by Lance Red 16" x 16" Oil paint on gallery wood panel This painting is part of an ongoing personal series focused on yokai creatures from Japanese mythology and folklore. This piece portrays the Tengu, who in ancient Japan were believed to be a mysterious force that caused sickness, illness, and torment people from being able to seek enlightenment. Traditionally they are shown as bird-like and having an appearance similar to that of yamabushi and dwell in the mountains, which they fiercely protect.
