'Yurei' by Lance Red 16" x 16" Oil paint on gallery wood panel This painting is part of an ongoing personal series focused on yokai creatures from Japanese mythology and folklore. In a general sense, yurei are ghosts in Japan; the spirits of the dead. Though the word ‘yurei’ can encompass a whole plethora of supernatural spirits. Some haunt specific places, while others roam the lands free. Most yurei are deadly and very dangerous; being driven by powerful emotions like revenge, anger, and holding grudges against the living. The revenge-seeking yurei are the most dangerous!
