Description

"The Cathedral" suggests the similarity between a human rib cage and the vaulting of a Romanesque cathedral (Alcobaca, Portugal, in this case). The corollary suggestion is that the body is the cathedral of the soul. At the lower left a gloved skeleton torso and head observes the explosion of matter, suggestion the expansion of the soul at the time of death to become with the entire universe. A very close look at the rib cage will find three mosquitoes being observed by the carnivorous dragonfly perched on the skeleton's pelvis. The woman at the skeleton's side considers all these aspects of life and death.
