The first of two cards I created for Magic's Alchemy: Ixalan, an online-exclusive expansion to the Lost Caverns of Ixalan set released in November. AD Zack Stella. I had both a ton of fun and a tremendously difficult time assembling all of these dinosaur bones -- and getting them into the right pose, on top of that! The deadline was too quick for me to build a maquette, which is what I really wanted to do, so instead I took about 10 different photographs of Parasaurolophus bones and did my best to assemble them as organically as I could. I wanted to give the sense that these bones were being made order out of chaos, so I included a few pieces that didn't quite belong, and tried to throw a few in that were settling into place. The real key was trying to get the viewer to be able to make sense of all that action -- to do this I imaged that the viewer is focusing a flash light or torch on the scene in this dark cave, which helps bring everything together with light.
